Bible Knowledge Requirement

A basic biblical foundation is necessary to do graduate theological reflection here at MB Biblical Seminary. However, because not all incoming students have had the same formation in Bible, we recognize several ways that students can demonstrate mastery of basic biblical material. Students are expected to have completed the Bible Knowledge Requirement by the end of their first year of seminary studies. Ideally, this requirement should be met before seminary studies begin. The BKR must be met by the end of the first semester for the student to continue studying.

The Bible Knowledge Requirement can be met in three ways:

1. A student can meet the Bible Knowledge Requirement by transcript evidence (3 undergraduate Bible courses) or its equivalent from recognized Bible Study programs (Walk through the Bible (OT and NT), YWAM, Perspectives on the World Christian Movement, etc.) with a B or better grade in each course. Submit transcripts and/or certificates along with your application for assessment by the Admissions Committee.

2. A student can meet the Bible Knowledge Requirement by passing the MB Biblical Seminary Bible Knowledge Test. The test consists of 70 multiple-choice questions and assesses mastery of basic biblical themes, characters, genres, chronology, etc. See Bible Knowledge Test Preparation for tips and sample questions (this requires adobe acrobat reader). The test is offered during the Registration period at the beginning of each semester at no charge. The passing grade for this test is 45/70. Students not achieving a passing grade automatically proceed to the following option.

If you would like to you may download the practice test.

3. A student can meet the Bible Knowledge Requirement by participating in a specialized track of the course IM-563 Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. The first five sessions of this fifteen-session course provide a general overview of the Bible as it relates to the mission of God. The course is offered regularly in the Fresno area (and elsewhere in the U.S.A.) and is also available in an on-line format. Students must make their own arrangements to register for the course. Log on to www.perspectives.org for locations, fees, and further details. If you decide to take the five sessions on-line, contact Darryl Bowe (dbowe@icm-intl.org) for the required fees, textbooks, and assignments. In addition to fulfilling the Bible Knowledge Requirement, students may decide to register these sessions for one unit of off-campus lectureship credit. Students may also decide to carry on and complete all fifteen sessions, registering for three-units of off-campus lectureship credits. When the course work is finished, submit completion certificate to the Registrar.
