July 9-18: Honduras Cross-Culture Encounter 2010

Honduras Cross-Cultural Encounter/Cross-Cultural Counseling (1.5 units) July 9-18, 2010

Students now have the option of meeting the part of their CCE/CCC requirement through doing an MBBS International CCE/CCC course.* Mark Baker will take a group of students to Honduras in July 2010. The time in Honduras will include staying for two nights in the homes of families from Amor Fe y Vida Church. In addition to visiting and observing the ministry of Amor Fe y Vida Church students will visit both rural and urban Christian community development projects, and a counseling center. The group will also visit and hear the life stories of a number of Hondurans. There will be a retreat within the course--a day-and-a-half of bi-lingual and interactive Bible study with Hondurans.
Details
Registration: students must register for the course by April 15. Until March 15 registration will only be open to MBBS students taking the course for credit. After that date auditors may register. All participants will need to fill out three documents regarding travel out of the country. They will be given to students when they register for the course.

Space is limited; therefore you are encouraged to register early.

Cost: In addition to tuition of $618 ($412 a unit) there will be a fee of $375.00. Auditors must pay an audit fee of $154.50 and $375.00. (This course is exempt from the audit tuition waver.) Students will also have to pay the cost of air travel to and from Tegucigalpa, Honduras (probably between $600.00 and $750.00).

Passports are required and should be applied for ASAP.

Spanish is not required, sessions will be translated, but any Spanish you can resurrect or learn will make the time richer.

Course work: The amount of reading and writing required for this course will be similar to that required of the other CCE/CCC courses. A syllabus will be available in February 2010.

Food and Lodging: We will stay with Honduran families for two nights. The rest of the time we will be staying at the Centro Shalom a retreat center owned and operated by the Honduran Mennonite Church. Good food (prepared with care for sensitive American stomachs), clean, but very basic accommodations, shared rooms. It is located in a beautiful spot surrounded by pine trees in a village on a mountain ridge above Tegucigalpa.

  • All students must do the LA portion of CCE/CCC. The Honduras CCE/CCC replaces the Fresno portion of CCE/CCC. For degree programs that only require 1.5 units of CCE/CCC the Honduras CCE/CCC would be considered an elective.
